LocationBalatonfüred - Lake Balaton
The lake, situated in the middle of Transdanubia, is often referred to as the "Hungarian Sea". The Balaton is 77 km long and, with its opal, silky water, it is one of the country's most treasured natural assets and the most popular holiday destination.
The water of Lake Balaton is most suitable for bathing in the three summer months. In this period its temperature is rarely less than 22 °C, and in high summer it is not unusual for it to reach 27–28 °C.
Balatonfüred is one of the "capitals" of the lake located on the northern shore. It became truly significant in the 19th century, when it was considered as one of the most important centres of culture and social life in Hungary. Famous poets, writers and politicians spent their summers and found recreation here. Its attractiveness is due to its beautiful location, the healing power of its carbonated springs, the fine, aromatic wines grown in the Uplands. The elegant, 200-year-old recently restored Anna Grand Hotel**** - the site of the Anna Balls -, endears its guests with modern comfort. The hotel is located app. 100 meter far from the lake shore and has 100 well-equipped, renewed rooms.
